Open Access, Licensing, and Copyright

Open Access Policy

ADES is a fully open-access journal. All published content is freely and permanently accessible online to any reader, anywhere in the world, immediately upon publication and without registration or subscription. This policy applies to all article types. ADES operates on the gold open-access model: authors pay an Article Publication Charge (APC) upon acceptance, and in return their work is published under a Creative Commons licence that allows free access and reuse.

Creative Commons Licensing

All articles published in ADES are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Licence (CC BY 4.0). Under this licence, readers may freely read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full text of articles, and use them for any lawful purpose, including commercial use, provided that:

  • The original authors and source are appropriately credited.
  • A link to the licence is provided.
  • Any changes made to the original work are indicated.
  • Authors retain copyright of their own work. By submitting to ADES, authors grant the journal the right of first publication under the CC BY 4.0 licence.

    50% Discount

Partial waiver (50% discount): Available to corresponding authors based at institutions in World Bank Group II (lower-middle-income) countries.

    Hardship Waiver

Hardship waiver: Authors from any country who can demonstrate a genuine inability to pay — and whose institutions or funders do not cover APCs — may apply for a full or partial waiver. Applications are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

APC waivers must be requested at the time of submission. Waiver requests do not affect editorial decisions, which are made entirely on scientific merit before any APC discussions take place. Authors whose funding body or institution covers the APC are expected to arrange payment accordingly and should not apply for waivers on financial grounds if funding is available.
